Report: Pirates, Melky Cabrera agree to minor-league deal

The Pittsburgh Pirates and free-agent outfielder Melky Cabrera are in agreement on a minor-league deal, sources told Ken Rosenthal and Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic.

He'll receive an invitation to spring training, according to Biertempfel.

Cabrera joins an outfield mix in Pittsburgh consisting of Starling Marte, Corey Dickerson, Lonnie Chisenhall, and the injured Gregory Polanco.

Polanco isn't expected to return to action until around June as he recovers from labrum surgery.

The 34-year-old Cabrera appeared in 78 games for the Cleveland Indians in 2018, hitting .280/.335/.420 with 17 doubles and 39 RBIs.

The veteran outfielder is a one-time All-Star who owns a career .286 average with 137 home runs.
